Mike's Music Box (Monday - 8pm)
It was back in 1998 that I actually retired from radio. Who knew that the move from Surrey and the M25 to Devon were going to reignite the spark. So a year or so ago I got back into it through an online hospital radio. From vinyl and decks to computers and USB's was quite a shock. I have been there and done it all through hospital radio with roles as station manager, program controller, and treasurer, as well as presenter.
Alongside this I was out there as a mobile and club DJ all over the London/Surrey/Kent area for some 3 decades, after a 13-week-long hot summer of wedding receptions, I retired from that side of the business.
I had also been part of many restricted service licenses when in 1993 the best opportunity opened up and suddenly I was broadcasting 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, on Eclipse FM, an ahead-of-its-time cable radio station. Unfortunately in 1996, the radio authority didn't see things our way, however, it was the best of times.
This was probably highlighted for me by having the late Dave Cash (Capitol Radio) as program controller, and working with and learning from him. I interviewed many of those that we love to listen to, and still tell the story of the day Hank Marvin made me a cup of coffee before we sat down to chat.
So why am I at ASR? I have a huge knowledge of music, specifically the 60's, and 70s, and a deep connection to that time which I love to share. I will play tracks you love to sing along to, and maybe give you a little bit about why I am playing it, and then slip in something by a famous name but the memory of it is just lurking there waiting to be recalled.
If you would love to hear a certain track or have something you would like mentioned in a future show then please email me, even if you just want to say hello.
See you on Monday at 8pm with "Mike's Music Box" here on ASR (Allsounds Radio)
